Coming to you 125 years in the past!

This is a fabulous post, I mean, without the birth of the mystery genre, I would be nothing. Actually I’d only be an Indiana Jones fan, but mysteries were foundational to my early childhood.
That being said
the entire point
of the first RDJ/Jude Law Sherlock Holmes
is that
it is not mysterious magic superpower sciencefiction steampunk.
The politicians are trying to trick people into THINKING it is, but Holmes figures it out. It’s just science and sleight of hand.
I mean you can argue that the characters are going for Victorian fantasy, but not the story as it sits on its own, because the main fucking character deconstructs the whole thing.
