Archaic Greek Gorgonieon
Gold and Bone
c. 600-480 BCE
Height: 4.5 cm, Width: 4.2 cm
A bone image of a gorgon’s face, each eye is filled with a convex gold disc. It has a hole in the back for attachment. I am not sure what it would have been attached to.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT
HOW AWESOME
THIS IS
First of all I thought that said gorgoncoin, which is an awesome concept in itself. Monster money.
SECONDLY I am totally obsessed with skull-looking things, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE THINGS-FOR-EYES, and yes I know it’s not SUPPOSED to look like it has a nasal cavity but it DOES and I kinda just see a gorgon skull and that’s AWESOME?!
so EYES and SKULLS and OH MY GOSH I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH. This is definitely rather inspiring and I think I may have to work it into my pirate flag insignia concept.
idk, apparently whatever muse I might have is monster-faced and skull-faced and AWESOME
